Jazz Ensemble and Combo Audition Excerpts - MTSU Spring 2022
/All auditions for Jazz auditions will be required for the following students:
Students who wish to participate in Jazz Ensemble I must play a jazz ensemble audition
Students wishing to perform in a jazz combo who did not participate in one in Fall 2021

Record yourself (private youtube video or mp3 audio) performing your given prepared excerpt. Clearly state your name, major, instrument, and year in school. Excerpts are found at http://www.jameysimmons.com/educationblog
If you wish to improvise in the band, perform a 2 chorus blues improvisation with a play-along.
Drummers should perform additional 16-bar sections of the following grooves:
Samba
Fast swing
Medium swing with brushes
Jazz waltz

Record yourself (private youtube video or mp3 audio) performing. At the beginning clearly state your name, major, instrument, and year in school.
Excerpts (Tenor Madness) are found at http://www.jameysimmons.com/educationblog
Perform the melody (1x) and then a 2 chorus improvisation over the form. You are encouraged to use a play-along.
Drummers should play the melody on the drum kit, then one chorus of time, and solo for an additional chorus.
Piano, guitar, bass, and vibes should comp/walk for a chorus.
